Awesome!

I found this on the interweb. This is someone's actual resume. My goal is to one day be this cool.

Michael

Sad day yesterday when Michael Jackson died. Farrah Fawcett and Ed McMahon also died this week but they did not get as much attention. Farrah was not as much part of my childhood and lets face it, most of us were surprised that Ed McMahon was still alive. Michael was the biggest star of them all to pass away. He will be remembered like Elvis and the Beetles to die as one of the greatest stars of all time. I don't want to be too praising because like most people, while I liked his music, he freaked me out a bit. His music was a found part of my childhood, from his thriller music video, to the Sega video game "Michael Jackson's Moonwalker" I owned and beat. One of my most clear memories of him was being gathered with my family around the TV to see the premier of his "Black and White" music video that played after the Superbowl if I remember correctly. I remember the video, I think, had Macaulay Culkin in it and all together was ok, until the last 10 minuets when he turned into a panther or some sort of jungle cat and then turned back into a human so he could vandalize a car. After that he then turned back into a cat and walked away and that was the end. I remember there being an awkward silence in the family room after that as we all tried to figure out what the crap that was all about.

On a side note I think I would have turned into a cougar and then trashed the car, people would be less likely to press charges if they thought it was a random cougar attack that trashed their car, and no finger prints. You should have thought that one through Michael.

North of the Bavarian Alps

Life is going swimmingly. I am a 26 year old single white male and I am loving it. The internship is going well. I enjoy what I do but some days I just don't want to work. (i.e. today) The efy midwest team is just finishing up Minnesota and I wish I could be there. In other news I was talking with my good friend Angela Brower and I have decided to travel out to Munich, Germany to pay her a visit and check out the city. One of the things I have always neglected to do was travel. I have always found an excuse to not do it but I am really excited about going. Angela has been a stage performer with an acting group in Germany. Angela and I became friends in 2007 when we were on the efy midwest team together. She is an extremely talented singer and has been featured on some church music. Her and I quickly became friends from when we first met and I am excited to have an adventure and see her.

26 Years

Tomorrow is my Birthday, I have been on the earth for 26 years now and every year this causes me to do an inventory of my life an look back at what I have accomplished and what I have failed. It is human nature (or maybe just my nature) to look back at my failures more than my accomplishments. I tend to be a person who constantly has regrets and is always wondering "what if..." I am proud at how far along I have some in my schooling. After high school I remember wondering if I would even be able to survive in college. I am proud to look back and not only have completed my Bachelors degree, but to be just a year away from completing my Masters degree. "The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry", and I can say that when I was a bright eyed 16 year old preparing for my senior year of high school, I believed my life would be quite different 10 years down the road. I have always been a person who has to have some sort of plan, and when that plan does not come to pass it can be unsettling. I think I have come to the conclusion that it is not what my plans are for the world, but what the world has planned for me.

Up

I saw the movie "Up" last night. It was the best Pixar movie yet. Well Done!

The Cone-Zone

On June 1st my favorite comedian and all around celebrity Conan O'Brien will be taking over Jay Leno's spot for the tonight show. This is a big step and honor for the goofy self deprecating comedian. This position has been held by people such as Steve Allen, Johnny Carson, and Jay Leno. I have always wanted to go to see Conan at his show in New York in the famous Rockefeller Center but now that he is moving to Las Angeles it will be only a 4 hour drive to see him.  For almost 15 years I have followed Conan on his late night show from times with his buddy Andy, to Arnold Via Satellite, and the Walker Texas Ranger lever. One of my favorite things about Conan is that he does not compromise. I have a feeling that many of the older viewers that are use to people like Johny Carson and Jay Leno will not receive him as well...but that will not effect him. Conan has been doing things his own way for many years and has been successful doing just that. I am excited for Conan and can't wait to see him in action again.
See below for a little review of his classic stuff!

An Anthropological Study of Provo Utah #1

Ok, I know it has been a while since my last post but a lot has been going on. First of all I will announce my first year of Grad school is over and I am halfway done. I have been trying to keep my 4.0 all year but I think I might have gotten a B in one of my Classes, oh well. Second I have changed my Graduate Assistantship. It was a difficult decision but I think I made the right move. I am moving from the Student Recreation center to the Student Involvement and Organization office. I think this fits me a bit better than my last one. I am really excited about starting it and I really like my supervisor. All that happened in the week I got back from seeing my family in Salt Lake City. It was great to see them and I was happy to finally see my little brother Derek now that he is home from his mission. Currently I am living in Provo Utah working on a internship in the office of the Dean of Student Life. Provo is like no other and it is taking me some time to get use to it. I remember when I was in high school my plan was to go to BYU or BYU Idaho for college. While that did not happen I can officially say I am a BYU student because my internship involves enrolling in a class. I have been really lucky to get a good look at college life in my college career. KSU is a very typical university setting nestled in the college community of Manhattan Kansas. Most of the things you think of with college can be found on KSU's campus. A strong student government, strong Greek presence, the limestone castles and towers and countless traditions and landmarks. The student body is highly involved and actively take place in the decision making for the University. BYU appears to have that with an interesting exception. All the decisions and customs seem to be established and enforced by the Church. I am not saying that this is a bad thing, it is just a very different experience for me. I am conflicted in my personal belief that by taking possibly negative things out of the picture, can you really teach people how to make correct decisions? One thing I found interesting is that you cannot find caffeine on campus ANYWHERE. this is not a huge deal I guess but I think it sends a powerful and subtle message to anyone who comes on campus, "is caffeine against the word of wisdom?", "I know good LDS People who drink caffeine, are they breaking the word of wisdom?" One other thing I found interesting is that students have little to no influence for decisions that are made on campus. Everything has to be approved, and I am not kidding when I say everything. Now I hope I am not coming off as anti-BYU because that is not the case at all. I find it interesting to to see how different the culture here is than on many other campuses. More finding are on the way, stay tuned!
